Tips for planning a vacation with your better half :)

I focus much of my energy on helping couples create their ideal vacation. That ideal looks different for everyone, but there are many general guidelines that can help you when you’re deciding on the destination or the experience.

If you and your better half can’t come to an agreement on the destination, style, length, or investment of your vacation, these questions (and destination suggestions!) might help narrow it down.

ARE YOU TRYING TO RELAX OR EXPLORE?

One of you wants poolside naps, and the other wants daily hikes, food tours, and a full itinerary. The goal here isn’t to pick one or the other, it’s to choose a destination that can support both.

My recommendation: Caribbean islands like St. Lucia, Anguilla, or Barbados offer beach time, downtime, and plenty of activities to keep things balanced.

ARE YOU SPLURGING OR SAVING?

If one of you wants first class seats and the other wants the ocean view suite, how do you meet in the middle? Ask yourselves: where does the splurge actually matter?

My recommendation: Upgrade the cabin on a Caribbean cruise, where the balcony is part of the experience. If you’re at a resort, ask yourself if you would rather wake up to ocean views or to garden views. Try to imagine yourself in the room, and then decide from that perspective.

ARE YOU TRYING TO SEE IT ALL OR SETTLE IN?

Seeing it all sounds great, but it really depends on your travel style. Some people really want to go, go, go, and then rest when they get home. Others travel to unwind. If your styles are opposite as a couple, I can help balance your itinerary to fit both of you.

My Recommendation: Costa Rica or Belize are both less traditional locations that blend adventure with downtime, without feeling overdone. Cruises inherently cater to both travel styles.

Some additional thoughts: be honest about your tolerance for long flights, time zones, and how much time you actually have for your vacation.

At the end of the day, your perfect couples’ vacation doesn’t need to check every box, it just needs to feel right for both of you.
